Music for the story
you're trying to tell.

I'm David Dimech — a Malta-based composer and orchestral arranger. I write emotionally-driven, texture-forward music in a hybrid orchestral + electronic voice, and arrange for live orchestra, most recently conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra for Malta's Mużika Mużika festival.

In the tradition of Jóhannsson · Guðnadóttir · Arnalds · Britell

Listen

The sound

Orchestral warmth meeting modern electronic texture. Real cues below, plus a set of scoring studies — pieces re-scored to existing scenes, purely as practice, to show range.

Scoring studies — re-scored to existing picture, not commissioned work:

  • Agent 327
  • Bridgerton
  • Stargirl
  • Love Is a Gift
  • Dream Logic

If you love the restraint of Jóhann Jóhannsson, the cello world of Hildur Guðnadóttir, the warmth of Ólafur Arnalds, or the character of Nicholas Britell — we'll get on well. That's the tradition I write into.

Dagger — original score

A 6-minute animated short adapting a scene from Shakespeare's Macbeth, directed by Francis Ghersci and produced by Stargate Studios Malta. The score follows Macbeth's descent — restrained strings and low, breathing texture that tighten into dread.

How I work

Simple, honest, and easy on your schedule

01

We talk first

A relaxed call about the story, the feeling, and a few references. No commitment, no jargon.

02

A sketch to picture

I write a short cue against your footage early, so we're hearing the direction before anyone's locked in.

03

We shape it together

Notes are welcome and expected. I'd rather revise happily than guess.

04

Clean delivery

Proper stems, correct specs, on time. I build tools for film work by day — the technical side won't slow you down.

About

A hybrid orchestral & electronic voice

I write emotionally-driven, texture-forward music for film and screen — a hybrid of orchestral warmth and modern electronic texture. That's the voice I bring to every score, whether it's built from a small ensemble or a full orchestra.

My most recent original score is Dagger, a 6-minute animated short directed by Francis Ghersci — restrained strings and texture that tighten as the story unravels. I also arrange for live orchestra: most recently conducting the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra for Malta's Mużika Mużika festival.

Alongside composing, I'm a software developer at Stargate Studios Malta — I studied Artificial Intelligence at the University of Malta, and by day I build tools inside the post/VFX pipeline. That dual background means I understand stems, delivery specs, and the modern post workflow from the inside, so the technical side of a score stays out of your way.
